Top 5 - Best Rock & Roll Double Albums of All Time

When a band comes together and produces so much material it makes for a double album is awesome. Sometimes, they are just trying to appease the record company contract for a 2 in 1 special. There have been many, many great ones in rock and roll history, but here are my best of the best:

5a. "The River" by Bruce Springsteen - This 1980 album is a masterpiece of American rock and roll, and features some of Springsteen's most iconic tracks, such as "Hungry Heart" and "The Ties That Bind." The first Springsteen album to go #1.

-TIE (I can do that!)

5b. "London Calling" by The Clash - Released in 1979, this double album is a seminal punk rock release, featuring some of The Clash's most politically charged and musically inventive tracks. I cannot tell you how much I love this album. A band at the prime of their rock n roll powers.

4. "Exile on Main St." by The Rolling Stones - Released in 1972, this album features some of the Stones' most iconic tracks, including "Tumbling Dice" and "Sweet Virginia."

3. "The Wall" by Pink Floyd - This 1979 concept album is a landmark of progressive rock, and features some of Pink Floyd's most memorable tracks, such as "Another Brick in the Wall" and "Comfortably Numb." Paul Roger Water’s grand opus still plays so well today.

2. "Physical Graffiti" by Led Zeppelin - Released in 1975, this album is a masterpiece of hard rock and blues. Not only does it have some of the best music of the band, it has some of the best music ever, with tracks like "In My Time of Dying," "Houses of the Holy," and "Kashmir" represent some of the group's best.

1. "Electric Ladyland" by The Jimi Hendrix Experience - This 1968 album is a psychedelic masterpiece, featuring some of Hendrix's most innovative guitar work. An absolute 10 out of 10, with tracks like “Cross Town Traffic”, “Voodoo Chile”, and the best Bob Dylan cover ever in “All Along the Watchtower”.
