Top 5 - Greatest Movie Soundtracks of the 80's
The 80’s were a golden age of movies, from practical effects horror films, to zany comedies, to over-the-top action flicks. On top of that the 80’s produced a ton of good music, from a multitude of genres. Put the two together and you’ve got totally awesome soundtracks, dude.
Here are my Top 5 80’s soundtracks:
5. Local Hero - Marc Knopfler This is not “money for nothin’ & your chicks for free”, but has some great instrumentation and guitar work.
"The Rocks and the Water"
"Wild Theme"
"Freeway Flyer"
"Boomtown (variation Louis' Favorite)"
"The Way It Always Starts" (Featuring Gerry Rafferty)
"The Rocks and the Thunder"
"The Ceilidh and the Northern Lights"
"The Mist Covered Mountains" (Traditional, arrangement by Mark Knopfler)
"The Ceilidh: Louis' Favourite, Billy's Tune"
"Whistle Theme"
"Smooching"
"Stargazer"
"The Rocks and the Thunder"
"Going Home: Theme of the Local Hero"
4. Back to the Future OK, maybe I have a bit of a man crush on Marty Alex McKeaton J. Fox, but if you’re even a casual fan of Huey Lewis and the News, this is great selection.
"The Power of Love" Huey Lewis and the News
"Time Bomb Town" Lindsey Buckingham
"Back to the Future" The Outatime Orchestra
"Heaven Is One Step Away" Eric Clapton
"Back in Time" Huey Lewis and the News
"Back to the Future Overture" The Outatime Orchestra
"The Wallflower (Dance with Me, Henry)" Etta James
"Night Train" Marvin Berry & The Starlighters
"Earth Angel (Will You Be Mine)" Marvin Berry & The Starlighters
"Johnny B. Goode" Marty McFly with The Starlighters
3. The Blues Brothers Fact about me, always wanted to be the singer in a great big R&B band. I’m talking multiple guitars, horns, back up singers, the works. Too bad I can’t sing for poop. This album is what my first album would’ve sounded like, before I went in a more funk direction. I do wish they had included John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom on the soundtrack, but…
"She Caught the Katy" The Blues Brothers
"Peter Gunn Theme" The Blues Brothers Band
"Gimme Some Lovin'“ The Blues Brothers
"Shake a Tail Feather" Ray Charles with the Blues Brothers
"Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" The Blues Brothers
"The Old Landmark" James Brown and the Rev. James Cleveland Choir
"Think" Aretha Franklin and the Blues Brothers with backing vocals by Brenda Corbett, Margaret Branch, Carolyn Franklin, Jake, and Elwood
"Theme from Rawhide" The Blues Brothers Band
"Minnie the Moocher" Cab Calloway with the Blues Brothers Band
"Sweet Home Chicago" The Blues Brothers
"Jailhouse Rock" The Blues Brothers with verses are sung by James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin
2. Purple Rain Because the Purple One has never been better, before or since. Only thing better would have been to include some songs by the Time.
"Let's Go Crazy"
"The Beautiful Ones"
"Computer Blue"
"Darling Nikki"
"When Doves Cry"
"I Would Die 4 U"
"Baby I'm a Star"
"Purple Rain"
1. Pretty In Pink Take a punky girl, throw in a spunky boy, and toss in another preppie boy, and you’ve got a teenage 80’s love triangle.
"If You Leave" Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
"Left of Center" Suzanne Vega with Joe Jackson
"Get to Know Ya" Jesse Johnson
"Do Wot You Do" INXS
"Pretty in Pink" The Psychedelic Furs
"Shellshock" New Order
"Round, Round" Belouis Some
"Wouldn't It Be Good" Danny Hutton Hitters
"Bring On the Dancing Horses" Echo & the Bunnymen
"Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" The Smiths
