Top 5- Best Bands/Artists Without a #1 Hit

5. Cream - Considered one of the first supergroups, they never hit #1. Best they could do: “Sunshine of Your Love” (#5) and “White Room” (#6) both in 1969.

4. Bruce Springsteen - So many Top 10 hits, but never a #1. Came close with “Dancing in the Dark” at #2 in 1984. His song “Blinded by the Light” did reach #1, but with Manfred Mann version.

3. Creedance Clearwater Revival - Creedence holds a record for the number of No. 2 songs without ever reaching #1. Seven number 2 hits, a number 3 and a number 4, but never a number 1.

2. Jimi Hendrix - Considered the greatest rock and roll guitarist ever, yet Hendrix never had even a Top 10 hit. In his short career he cracked the Top 20 just once with a cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” off the Electric Ladyland album. That album did reach the top of the album charts to #1 in 1968.

1. The Who - Despite being a staple of rock stations for 50+ years, The Who never reached #1, and only cracked the Top 10 once with “I Can See For Miles” hitting #9 in 1967.

Honorable mentions with no #1 hits: Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne solo, Nirvana, The Kinks, Judas Priest, Grateful Dead, Metallica, Deep Purple, AC/DC, The Clash, Bob Dylan, Rush, Pearl Jam, Talking Heads, and the mighty Led Zepplin
